SQL Fundamentals deserves praise because it documents the implementation of Structured Query Language (SQL) in Oracle databases and Access databases simultaneously. Readers find out how to do simple single-table queries, more complicated multitable queries, table creation, joins, unions, and calculations in both environments in a variety of circumstances. For those who've never worked with SQL before and plan to use one of the two covered platforms, this book will make a fine starting point, since it explains elementary SQL concepts too.

Here's the approach: Author John J. Patrick sets out a task--for example, writing a statement that yields a left outer join of two databases. Then he proceeds to accomplish the task in both Access and Oracle, presenting the platforms' respective SQL statements side by side. The differences between the two implementations of SQL are obvious, making it easy for someone familiar with one of the two environments to adapt to the other. The reader will also find the numbered and highlighted key passages, which include details on the facing page, very helpful.

Patrick, who based this book on a university course he teaches, knows the value of practical experience--he's loaded SQL Fundamentals with exercises in addition to the tasks he completes himself. I fell across this beautiful story about true friendship. It is deceptively simple and deeply profound all at once. Now I have to read everything else Philippe Claudel has written.

Listen to the man's poetry. L'existence "peut �tre aussi cela . . . des miracles parfois, de l'or et des rires, et de nouveau l'espoir quand on croit que tout autour de soi n'est que saccage et silence!"

"There is always the morning..."

Monsieur Linh softly sings this lullaby to his granddaughter's ear as she is snuggled next to him on their thin mattress on the cold cement floor. Memories of a happier life back home keep the fragile old man awake and let him forget the cold and the unfriendly surroundings in the new country... This beautifully crafted, subtle yet intensely imagined story of refugee life and its bewilderment, memories of loves lost and the power of friendship found, is one of the most deeply touching stories I have read in a long time.

Monsieur Linh, arriving on a refugee boat from somewhere in Asia, having lost his beloved son and daughter-in-law during a recent war, is feeling lonely and confused, without the language of the new country, where everything is foreign to him. The contrast between the village left behind and the big city of the present could not be starker. "This place doesn't have any of the smells ..." he reminisces, recalling the beauty of his homeland. His only consolation is his baby girl, 'Sang di�', who he saved and who is now his sole reason for living. The conditions in the refugee dormitory, the hostility of the other refugees, painted with a few skilful and precise strokes, form the necessary background tableau for Monsieur Linh's loneliness and isolation. The old man, with 'Sang di�' in his arm, wanders all day in the nearby streets and the park, worried about crossing one of the wide highways full of cars. Then, one day, resting on a bench, he meets Monsieur Bark, a large quiet man with features that make Monsieur Linh look and feel even smaller.

Over time, even without a common language, the communication blossoms between the two men. Friendship can be expressed through quiet regards and understated gestures, such a touch on the shoulder. Their friendship grows, literally beyond words. In Claudel's perceptive and delicate language, the reader listens in on the two unspoken or spoken monologues that the two friends can only interpret from the changing sounds in the voice or expression in the face. We learn of their backgrounds, their happiness and deep sorrows that brought the two unlikely friends together. One day, however, Monsieur Linh is taken away from the refugee camp to a new residence in another part of the big city...

Gripping!

This book is nothing short of amazing! Gripping from the very beginning and it just gets better. It's one of those books that will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to read more! Would recommend to everyone as a must read!

This just wasn't what I expected from all the 5-star reviews. Everything was a bit too unrealistic and easy for the characters.

**Possible Spoilers**
Heroine gets shot in the chest along with other terrible injuries? No problem. Bad guys are chasing the group, but the protectors always know about it just before it happens. The bad guys are quickly eliminated just because the male heroes are so awesome at everything (eye roll). Not to mention the main hero has been obsessed with the heroine ever since he saw a picture of her as a 5 year old...yeah, that's not creepy at all. Of course the previously-uninterested-in-forever heroine falls in love with the hero after a month or so (double eye roll). I've read much better romantic suspense novels.

This book was all about building up the storyline and characters. Than great action, loss and struggles. Everything built to the great ending. This is one book were it wasn't about the sex all the time. Had a great hero. And the characters got to know each other.

This is part 2 of the basic double bass method for students of the instruments.

It incorporate mostly etudes, by which one can practice the technique learned on each chapter of the book.

The two books together are comperhansive and they are suitable for the one studying fundamental bass technique.

As a "self educated" amateur I find the books very practical and effective, however, occupationally, there is a need to address some mentoring to shad light on some specific orchestral techniques.

They don't tell you the print is reduced to a small paperback.

I returned this.. I had the original German/English method.

What they don't tell you is they reduce the size of the page to a small pocket book making reading absurd. After all , bass players are a distance
from their stands.

Had to order the newer version at a greater cost.

This book is an excellent introduction to the double bass. Good coverage of the positions up to the octave. The only weakness is that there is no introduction to thumb position.

About the Author
Stephen Ross is presently the Franco Modigliani Professor of Finance and Economics at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. One of the most widely published authors in finance and economics, Professor Ross is recognized for his work in developing the Arbitrage Pricing Theory and his substantial contributions to the discipline through his research in signaling, agency theory, option pricing, and the theory of the term structure of interest rates, among other topics. A past president of the American Finance Association, he currently serves as an associate editor of several academic and practitioner journals. He is a trustee of CalTech, a director of the College Retirement Equity Fund (CREF), and Freddie Mac. He is also the co-chairman of Roll and Ross Asset Management Corporation. Randoloph W. Westerfield is Dean of the Marshall School of Business at University of Southern California and holder of the Robert R. Dockson Dean's Chair of Business Administration. From 1988 to 1993, Professor Westerfield served as the chairman of the School's finance and business economics department and the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Finance. He came to USC from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chairman of the finance department and member of the finance faculty for 20 years. His areas of expertise include corporate financial policy, investment management and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and stock market price behavior. Professor Westerfield has served as a member of the Continental Bank trust committee, supervising all activities of the trust department. He has been consultant to a number of corporations, including AT&T, Mobil Oil and Pacific Enterprises, as well as to the United Nations, the U.S. Department of Justice and Labor, and the State of California.

Nearly identical to Corporate Finance 8th Edition ISBN 0073337180.

This International version nearly identical to US book Corporate Finance 8th Edition ISBN 0073337180. I was supposed to have the US book for my class and mistakenly bought this one. I compared my book to a classmates and the only differences I found were in the problems. Rather than an American company name like Irrigation Specialists and money in $'s, the problem would read Broslofski and money is in Euros. So if you want to save money, I recommend buying the international version.

solid introduction

we use this book in an undergraduate finance course. I believe that it was adequate to be used as material for students that have to go through their first encounter with business finance. The topics were well explained, with a set of examples to underline relevant aspects of financial formulas.
