She is the coauthor of Raw Food: A Complete Guide for Every Meal of the Day and Raw Desserts: Mouthwatering Recipes for Cookies, Cakes, Pastries, Pies, and More. She lives in Gothenburg, Sweden with her husband Sam Aziz and their daughter Saga.

Irmela Lilja is a health and human resources journalist. She is a vegetarian whose diet includes a high percentage of raw foods. She is the coauthor of Raw Food: A Complete Guide for Every Meal of the Day and Raw Desserts: Mouthwatering Recipes for Cookies, Cakes, Pastries, Pies, and More, and lives in Stockholm with her daughter Ebele.

I love this book - and I'm not a raw newbie

I've been trying to figure out the best way to review this book. On the one hand, hard-core rawies maybe won't like the fact that the authors are not 100% raw all the time. But me? I like this. They may say that the recipes are so simple, so why write them into a raw cookbook? Yes, they are simple, but they are very different than those I've seen in other raw books, and I have, I swear, most every raw book published! I enjoy and get inspiration and ideas from them all. But taste and simplicity are the themes here.

In addition to the great recipes, this book is pretty - nice layout, photos, etc., and honestly I am a sucker for pretty books. But again, I am enamored with the ease of these recipes. I think it's almost validation for how I eat and most usually approach the raw thing, meaning - in the summer and early fall and even spring it's much easier and feels more natural to eat a lot of raw. But I live in the Midwest, and in the winter, it is very counterintuitive for me to hunt for pineapple and mango to make a smoothie. I want root vegetables - sometimes cooked - and miso soup. And I won't apologize for that. (There are no cooked recipes in here and none for miso soup, I was just making a point.) I do love the raw recipes that use these root veggies (parsnip, celery root, sweet potatoes and Jerusalem artichokes for example)and I am totally all over the fruit porridges. I'm making my own versions with seasonal fruit and chia seeds, and although many may say it's just a smoothie with less liquid, OK - but I didn't think of it - and I love it. Especially the idea to add celery. My non-raw husband also loved the taco fixings, which we had last night.

I think those new to raw will love these recipes. And those who truly need or want to put something together quickly. A lot of books say "quick" but there are often hidden steps or recipes within recipes that make this misleading. In this book, NONE of the recipes require dehydration, so save for the recommended nut soaking in some recipes, these are very easy to do. Over this Memorial Weekend, the book has been my go-to for some needed cleansing and "body resetting." I think this is a great book for beginners, as well as for those of us who are a little burned out on the more involved recipes many raw food books contain. Right now, this is the way I want to eat, and I'm so glad I found this at a local bookstore so I could see it for myself. I look forward to more raw food books by these two women! (Hope you're working on one!)

Haven't Found A Recipe I Don't Like

I cannot list all the recipes that I love from this book, as this review would never end, but my girlfriend thinks I'm a master chef due to this book, and I never was that good in the kitchen to begin with.

As someone who used to work for a smoothie company, I can attest that the fruit smoothie recipes in this book are the real deal. I've even concocted my own recipes based on the ones from the book, all though the originals always seem to taste better than mine.

Overall this book is an A+. The food is consistently good, the recipes are easy to follow (which is important) and I'm eating healthier every single day, and have even given up fast food!

Please buy this book, you won't regret it.

Raw in all its deliciousness

I've been flirting with raw food for a while now but ever since i received this book, i have yet to eat a cooked meal. All recipes come out beautiful and delicious, including desserts! Raw carrot cake and raw tacos were a hit at an omnivore's potluck dinner and got everyone interested in raw foods.
I do not own a dehydrator and until last week i did not have a spiralizer either, but you really don't need any special equipment for the recipes in this book.
Looking forward to see what the authors will publish next. Anyone remotely interested in raw foods should give it a try and begin with this book.

This book has some great "basics" that someone new to the industry would need ...

This book has some great "basics" that someone new to the industry would need to know. Because starting a beauty company can be much more complex, it is good to know the basics first and go from there. Many of the suggestions make sense (i.e. choosing a name that is not someone's personal name; using fragrance water vs. fragrance among others.) There are also some valuable websites that are listed. This book will really help people who are just beginning to consider starting their own beauty company.

While not an in-depth account of everything required to launch a line of cosmetic products. It is a smart description of the essential elements required to get started from someone with deep knowledge. I appreciate the honesty around the where there could be challenges and the clarity of if you are passionate about it, do it. I appreciate the value of advice from an expert in any endeavour which is what you are getting here.

About the Author

Anthony Bedford is Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin. He received the B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, the M.S. degree from the California Institute of Technology, and the Ph.D. degree from Rice University in 1967. He has industrial experience at Douglas Aircraft Company and at TRW, where he did structural dynamics and trajectory analyses for the Apollo program. He has been on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin since 1968. He is a member of the University of Texas Academy of Distinguished Teachers and has received several teaching awards over the years.

Dr. Bedford's main professional activity has been education and research in engineering mechanics. He has been principal investigator on grants from the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research, and from 1973 until 1983 was a consultant to Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico. His other books include Hamilton's Principle in Continuum Mechanics, Introduction to Elastic Wave Propagation (with D.S. Drumheller), and Mechanics of Materials (with K.M. Liechti).

Wallace T. Fowler holds the Paul D. and Betty Robertson Meek Professorship in Engineering in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Fowler received the B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, and has been on the faculty there since 1965. During the Fall of .1976, he was on the staff of the United States Air Force Test Pilot School, Edwards Air Force Base, California, and in 1981-1982 he was a visiting professor at the United States Air Force Academy. Since 1991 he has been Associate Director of the Texas Space Grant Consortium.

Dr. Fowler's areas of teaching and research are dynamics, orbital mechanics, and spacecraft mission design. He is author or coauthor of technical papers on trajectory optimization, attitude dynamics, and space mission planning and has also published papers on the theory and practice of engineering teaching. He has received numerous teaching awards including the Chancellor's Council Outstanding Teaching Award, the General Dynamics Teaching Excellence Award, the Halliburton Education Foundation Award of Excellence, the ASEE Fred Merryfield Design Award, and the AIAA-ASEE Distinguished Aerospace Educator Award. He is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a licensed professional engineer, a member of several technical societies, and a Fellow of both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society for Engineering Education. In 2000-2001, he served as president of the American Society for Engineering Education.

Kenneth M. Liechti is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin and holds the E. P. Schoch Professorship in Engineering. He received the B.Sc. degree in aeronautical engineering from Glascow University and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology. He gained industrial experience at the Fort Worth Division of General Dynamics prior to joining the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin in 1982.

His primary areas of teaching and research are in the mechanics of materials and fracture mechanics. He is the author or coauthor of papers on interfacial fracture, fracture in adhesively bonded joints, and the nonlinear behavior of polymers. He has consulted on fracture problems with several companies.

Dr. Lieehti is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Society for Experimental Mechanics, the American Academy of Mechanics, and the Adhesion Society. He is an associate editor of the journal Experimental Mechanics, published by the Society for Experimental Mechanics.

Our original objective in writing this book was to present the foundations and applications of statics and mechanics of materials as we do in the classroom. We used many sequences of figures, emulating the gradual development of a figure by a teacher explaining a concept. We stressed the importance of visual analysis in gaining understanding, especially through the use of free-body diagrams. Because inspiration is so conducive to learning, we based many of our examples and problems on a variety of modern engineering applications.

Not a bad text, but...

The approach in this book is a lot different than that which engineering students will learn in their Physics classes. This book uses a lot of calculus once you get past chapter seven, so make sure you have taken at LEAST up to Calculus III before you embark on the wonderous journey of attempting to understand shear and moment diagrams.

And there's a sufficient number of errors in the chapter two, three, and I think chapter six solutions. Make sure you ask your professor about them.

Not too terribly hard to get through, though. If you're studious and intelligent, you'll be fine.

About the Author

J. Amos Hatch is Professor of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee and the editor of Qualitative Research in Early Childhood Settings and coeditor (with Richard Wisniewski) of Life History and Narrative. He was coeditor (with Richard Wisniewski) of the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education for five years.

Must read for new qualitative researchers focused on dissertation

As a new qualitative researcher, finding Dr. Hatch's book "cleared the clouds" and provided an easy to read support for all the processes necessary to be successful with a qualitative research project, especially for dissertation students. After reading all the classics (Yin, Creswell, Denzin, Lincoln, Stake, Miles and Hubermann, etc) Hatch brings it all together and provides solid questions for you to evaluate your own work before sending it into your committee. Must have for new qualitiative researchers!

This book provided a rich description of qualitative research and an easy to understand roadmap for students embarking on the process of conducting a qualitative research study. Hatch took a difficult subject and made it accessible to novice researchers by providing an in-depth, well-thought out presentation of how to go about conducting research step by step in a logical manner. It was thorough from beginning to end. It also spoke to the individual, unique personal qualities and characteristics of the researcher that is inherent to the research. Therefore, it offered us an opportunity to do some real soul-searching and see ourselves in a different light.

It was easy to read and understand and organized well. I thought the section about writing and Hatch's personal experiences were very valuable not only for researchers but for those who wish to write or improve their writing skills in general. The data analysis chapter was extremely helpful during the data analysis process because it provided clear, easy-to-follow steps. I used it as a guide and a reference for my project.

One suggestion is that the section on research paradigms might be a little difficult for some students who are not familiar with the meaning of ontology and epistemology. In our class, a number of students noted they had a hard time understanding these concepts so it might be helpful if there was a paragraph that explains these concepts leading into the connection to the various paradigms.

Overall, this is an excellent introduction for students to the various steps in the process. It was enjoyable to read, enlightening and it gave me a solid foundation for conducting my own study. I loved the book and I enjoyed doing qualitative research. It was also helpful . . . to enable us to delve deeply into the challenging and exciting experience of conducing qualitative research. The book and Dr. Horn also provided a good contextual framework for different methodologies as well.

The importance of qualitative research in education settings can not be underestimated in world in which children are often reduced to nothing but a number on a standardized test score. Thank you, Dr. Hatch, for giving us this wonderful gift and thank you Dr. Horn for sharing it with us.

Great book

The 7e book was required for my nursing class, but I checked with a professor if this version would be okay and it was. Save yourself some money and get this edition if your professor allows it. The chapters are not in the same order in older edition but covers the same information. Just look up chapters by title.

This book was easier to read than other nursing textbooks. Pertinent information are in highlighted boxes, very helpful. I liked how there were little stories about different psych patients that helped with memorization.

Good Condition

Book was in good condition, the hardcover was still intact & no bent edges, the pages were not bent. There was a lot of highlighting throughout the book, which was in the description when I bought it. And it was received on time when stated.

This review is supposed to be for the seller but I can't delete it now because it isn't an option. I have not used this book yet, I will be starting my 3rd semester in nursing school in the fall & I will use it then.

Extremely Contradictory.

This book was a huge pain to have in my class. It is full of contradictions, and it is extremely poorly edited. If you are taking this class online, good luck. It you have a lecture for this class, listen well. The questions that come on the CD contradict the book and are extremely poorly edited. I really wish we had gone with a different book for this class.
