A small minded western look at a liberal eastern religion.

The title of this book would more appropriately be "The Saktas, A biased and predjudiced slamming". The author is constantly refering to tantric practices as "revolting" and "disgusting". The book was written by an early British colonialist, and its authorship is aparent in every sentence. I do not understandy why, if he felt this way, did he take the time to write the book.

This is a wothwhile survey of some literature that could have remained hidden otherwise. Some of the author's aesthetic judgments are lacking in the clinical objectivity that might be desired, but publication of a book like this in 1933 Britain may not have been possible otherwise. If you look past the rhetoric, you can learn something from this book.

Really good edition.

I trust this music editorial, all the music I've played from them is usually great. The piano part would benefit from suggested fingerings but I don't mind that much that it doesn't have any on Shostakovich, I would probably look for another edition on other composers.

It comes with each instrumental score separately.

The only reason I can't give it five stars is the fact that the red cover is not attached to the piano score, making the cover a separate piece of the music (just the front and back cover are together, all the music comes separately). This will probably make it easier to turn pages but makes the cover pointless.

UPDATE: I recently played it and found a couple of places with misprints in the piano score: one on the duration of a note on the violin different from the violin part (the violin part is correct, not the piano score) and a small motive at the end of the fugue in the piano part. I still recommend this edition, just take in consideration the misprints.

These transients are more extensively treated in "Theory and Calculation of Transient Electric Phenomena and Oscillations," and in "Electric Discharges, Waves and Impulses," and therefore will be omitted in the following. However, to some extent, the transients of our theoretical literature, still are those of the "phantom circuit," that is, a circuit in which the constants r, L, C, g, are assumed as constant. The effect of the variation of constants, as found more or less in actual circuits: the change of L with the current in circuits containing iron; the change of C and g with the voltage (corona, etc.); the change of r and g with the frequency, etc., has been studied to a limited extent only, and in specific cases. In the application of the theory of transients to actual electric circuits, considerable judgment thus is often necessary to allow and correct for these "secondary" phenomena which are not included in the theoretical equations. Especially deficient is our knowledge of the conditions under which the attenuation constant of the transient becomes zero or negative, and the transient thereby becomes permanent, or becomes a cumulative surge, and the phenomenon thereby one of unstable equilibrium. Great edition of an old book, interesting read, great info, read it with a grain salt

This is a really good book by the father of electricity. He was a very good explainer although some words or expressions may be unfamiliar due to the age difference. This book is a great read but should be read with grain of salt, you have to be aware that the stuff in this book is more than 100 years old, many of the chapters are plain obsolete, and many of the techniques, theories and materials were not invented or discovered back then so you shouldnt take literally everything this book says. However most of the core information of the book hasnt changed over the last 100 years, Steinmetz who first described magnetic hysteresis, makes a very fine job explaining it in this book, most of the book is focused on the magnetic effects of materials, hystereresis and its impact on electric circuits, this book should provide a solid foundation on magnetic hysteresis, complemented with a more modern book which approaches new materials and techniques.

As for the edition of this book, I must say it is great, no missing words, formulas or images, the paper quality is quite good, relatively thick yellowish paper, also the print quality is quite good. I've seen complete editorial disasters with these old Steinmetz books, in which pages will be missing, or graphs and formulas will be chopped off, etc.. this is not the case with this book, this one is very clean, I wish the quality of the other Steinmetz books could be as good as this one.
