The Pen and the Sword: Conversations with Edward Said collects five interviews with Palestinian author and critic Edward Said (1935-2003), conducted by David Barsamian, director of Alternative Radio. Ranging in subject from Said's literary scholarship, to "Orientalism", to music and popular culture, to the crimes of the Israeli occupation and the troubling direction in which PLO leadership took the Palestinian liberation movement during 1987-94 (as well as the pivotal need for greater understanding of the conflict today), The Pen and the Sword is insightful and invaluable reading. Highly recommended, especially for international literary scholarship collections and anyone searching for testimonies about the big picture of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
