needs more character development

The Good
1) Riri is a nice girl with good values. The flashbacks to her friend and family members are solid.
2) The Bendis dialogue is there. It isn't in top form, but it serves.
The Bad
1) Not only does Pepper Potts have her own armor (some 2009 nightmare storyline), but she is now a highly skilled martial artist and super-savy business mind that was responsible for much of Tony Stark's success. Puh-leease.
2) Riri's mother knows that she is running around in the Iron Man suit. She's 15. Mom is 40 and already suffered horrendous personal losses. No way she lets Riri run around (Bendis tries to address this, but still).
The parallels to Miles Morales don't work. Miles' private life was much more developed than Riri's, even in the first few issues. Miles had 2 parents, an uncle and Gamke. Riri has her Mom. We don't get to see her interact with anyone else, and as a result, she is painfully one-dimensional (the ultra-serious, ultra-smart 15 year old that wants to save the world and has no other outside interests).

Best on the market

This is the real stuff. Bendis at his best, with real-world characters combined with fantasy at its best.
Caselli's art shines above all the cartoon-strip, kiddie stuff so prevalent today. Rich, nuanced, realistic. Thank you for some real comic book art up there with the greats!
Riri is a great character, and she uses her brains instead of punching, punching, punching - kind of like Stark as Iron Man at the beginning.
Also, great code name: Ironheart!

As openings for heroes go, this one gets right to the fun without dwelling on any tropes you are tired of.
