Book teaches math skills we all can use

As promised, this book makes math fun. I've been out of college for over 40 years, and I am having a ball with this book. I always liked math, it just did not like me. Learning the math of the Universal Product Code (UPC) and Bank Account Routing numbers was worth the price of the book.

I have been enlightened by this book!

I never did well in math. In fact, the majority of grade school math classes... well... I do not remember them at all. Numbers were not as interesting as a good book, or a cool peice of history. Yet, here I am in college, terrified to take that required math class. I admit, I dropped out of my traditional college math the class the first week, out of fear of looking like an idiot.
Then I saw a different option. A class called "Math Appreciation". Reading the description, it seemed as though the course would focus on exactly that: Appreciating mathematics in our lives. This book was the required text.
I can honestly say, that I finally get it. I understand the significance of math in my life, and it astounds me. I have this textbook, and its authors to thank.
They made what first seemed pointless, into something truly beautiful and intriguing.
It was hard at first, to look beyond what I knew of traditional math. This is a mind expanding textbook, and therefore may displease those who are linear thinkers.

Good overview for the mathematically inclined and non-mathematically-inclined

I really liked this book, even as a mathematics major. It was a great introduction to areas of math I thought I had no interest in as well as a good overview of effective mathematical thinking. After reading this book and taking a course that went along with it I developed a new-found interest in graph theory, which was an area I thought I hated.
If you think you hate mathematics, this is a good book for you. The explanations of seemingly-intimidating concepts are clear and there are lots of explanations of how you see these phenomena in the "real world."
Overall, I highly recommend this.
