W.B. Johnson's and K. Murray's CRAZY LOVE, DEALING WITH YOUR PARTNER'S PERSONALITY is a grim treatise.

The volume majors in realism, not hope. More often than not, the authors' counsel is that you will not survive the partner to whom you have tied your soul, life, destiny. It may be best to get out while there is some gettin' to be had.

More than a fascinating front-to-back read, CRAZY LOVE is a survival manual for the badly mated. Sixteen chapters start off by touching upon introductory matters ('1. Crazy Love: the weird partner detection and survival guide'; '2. Personality disorders 101: understanding weird partners'; '3. How Could I be Attracted to PDPs? let me count the (top nine) ways!'. Then we are led into three 'clusters' of personality disorder: 'Cluster A: Odd, Eccentric, and Weird Partners'; 'Cluster B: Dramatic, Erratic, and Dangerous Partners'; and 'Cluster C: Anxious, Withdrawn, and Needy Partners'.

'Some Final Thoughts' ('What if I'm married to a personality-disordered partner?') provides an exit strategy and, alternatively, a glum plan for those who choose to stay.

Those who bring a moral framework to matters of relationship will not be met along that road by Johnson and Murray. Their approach is pragmatic in a straight-forward way. 'Does it make more sense to stay or to bail?' is the dominant question in the work's subtext.

The authors competently introduce their reader to life's menu of dysfunctional partners by description and story. At the end of each chapter, it is possible to have acquired a functional grasp of the particular problem partner under discussion and his or her underlying (and more often than not, persistent) oddity.

This is a book for those who face a Sophie's choice. It is grim, glum, realistic and--therefore--helpful.

Having taken the graduate course "Diagnosis in Counseling" with Dr. Johnson it is incredibly obvious that he has spent a large amount of time working with clients with Personality Disorders and has an extensive knowledge base. Without having read the book (but planning on doing so) I am sure that Dr. Johnson's combination of expertise and sensitivity will shine through and I would already feel comfortable recommending this book!

KNOTS! As Promised

Like all the books in the field guide series, this book is compact and thin making it easy to pack or carry on your person. This is what I was looking for! In a stressful situation or if depending on a novice to help you, having a pocket reference guide to some of the most useful knots is a God sent. Written for any level reader, it first makes clear the terminology that is going to be used without making it sound like a lecture. Creek never talks down to his readers, he talks to you. This helps on many levels. After this the instructions along with the clear B&W drawings makes it easy to recreate the knots featured. At the end of the book is an area for your own personal notes. In my opinion, there's only two things I think would make this book better; print it on waterproof paper (would add to cost be worth it) and a spiral spine, to open and hold the book open or flat while viewing the knot needed.
Overall, exactly what I needed in my kit.

Knots are the vehicle by which cordage becomes a tool

This is by far my favorite of Creek’s field guides so far. It gives a comprehensive list of 19 basic knots that everyone should know. The diagrams are clear and easy to read. The instructions are also on point, both of which can be a big problem in other places I’ve learned knots. You will learn the lingo that goes along with tying knots as well as the types of rope conducive to each one. I also like that it sometimes mentions where they are applicable as well as where you should not use them. Definitely looking forward to volume 2.

About the Author
Michael S. Wolf was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1948. He attended Webb School (Bell Buckle, Tennessee), Stanford University, and Louisiana State University Law School. He has practiced law in Louisiana and other American jurisdictions since 1973. His earliest spiritual training consisted of Catholicism, eventually supplemented by the Christian Yoga of J.-M. Dechanet, the Joyous Cosmology of Alan Watts, and the Fourth Way of G. I. Gurdjieff. Since the early 1970s Wolf has been a student of buddhadharma, drawing his main influences from the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and from the Soto Zen tradition of Japanese and Chinese Buddhism. His main dharma teacher is Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Monastery, located in Woodstock, New York. Wolf resides in Baton Rouge with his wife, Lessie Johnson. They have a grown daughter, and they are trying to age gracefully as Wolf pursues literary and legal projects and carries on a long-running campaign for civic and ideological reform.

This wonderful book is a must-have for every Boy Scout troop, the Bible for the youth leadership of the troop. It has everything the boys need to plan their activities for the year, and even their individual meetings and outings. Activities are covered, as are games, and ceremonies. I could take pages talking about all of what is in here, but instead let me just say that it is everything a troop needs!

So, if you are a part of a Boy Scout troop that does not have a Woods Wisdom book, do whatever it takes to get them one. It is a resource that will help the troop for many years to come. My Scouts and I highly recommend this book!

Farshid Moussavi is Professor in Practice in the Department of Architecture, Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Her London-based firm, Foreign Office Architects (FOA), is recognized as one of the most creative design firms in the world, deftly integrating architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture in their projects. They have produced numerous critically-acclaimed and award-winning international projects, most notably the Yokohama Ferry Terminal in Japan. Prior to establishing Foreign Office Architects (with Alejandro Zaera Polo) in London in 1992, she worked with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Genoa and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam.
